Akihiro Nikaido (二階堂明弘)


Born in Sapporo in 1977, Akihiro Nikaido is a ceramic artist. He graduated from the Ceramic and Porcelain Department of Bunka Gakuin College of Art in 1999 and became independent in 2001 in Tochigi Prefecture. Since 2010, he has been organizing and hosting the "Tou-ISM2010" project. In 2011, due to the earthquake, the "Tou-ISM2011" event was canceled, and he initiated the "Tou-ISM Utuwa no Chikara Project," delivering ceramics directly to temporary housing.


His works have been featured in various exhibitions, including "Next Generation Energy" (Mashiko Ceramic Art Museum Messe and Ibaraki Prefectural Ceramic Art Museum joint exhibition in 2013), "Phenomenon" Contemporary Ceramic Art Exhibition (Ibaraki Prefectural Ceramic Art Museum in 2014), solo exhibition "Wabi-to-Ima" (Globus Tea Room in New York in 2015), and "Wabi-to-Ima -Wa-" expressing Japanese culture through the tea ceremony (various locations in New York in 2016). In 2018, he held a solo exhibition titled "January and July" in Paris. In 2019, he organized "Wabi-to-Ima -San-" in various locations in New York. He holds approximately 10 solo exhibitions per year and has held numerous exhibitions overseas in cities such as New York, Paris, London, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Beijing, and Shanghai.
