Glary Wu (b. 1996) was born and raised in Hong Kong, graduated from the Academy of Visual Arts at Hong Kong Baptist University in 2019. She has created and published an illustration zine "Jobless" and participated in the Hong Kong and Taipei Art Book Fair in 2020.
Glary is fascinated by the use of different materials such as wood colours, plastic paints, and pastels, which she delicately weaves into her paintings. With her keen sensitivity to the subtleties of life, she creates colourful and playful images. She enjoys sketching in the parks, observing ordinary strangers and collecting their stories with her warm and imaginative art sense.
Glary is adept at rendering common things happening in the ordinary daily life unfamiliar through her paintings, and uses them to reflect on her own and the surrounding circumstances as if they were theatrical settings. Although her artworks appear warm and relaxing, they reveal the real aspect of life with a precise insight. Glary values the relationships and dialogues between various elements and characters within the canvas, and imbues her works with the power to touch people's hearts through her own private experiences and emotions. Glary’s paintings showcase a pastoral atmosphere, radiating a warm and calming energy. She desires to make her paintings a beam of light in the darkness, providing a small but firm support for those who are in difficult situations of their lives.
