Eugene Lun (b. 1998, Hong Kong. Lives and works in Hong Kong) graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Hong Kong Baptist University Academy of Visual Arts in 2021 and, in the same year, received the HKOP Award in Printmaking. Imbued with whimsy and mischief, his creative practice explores the absurdities woven into daily life via a sausage character named “Cheong Cheong.” With a mission to activate the playful and eccentric side of people, his artworks integrate technology, such as Augmented Reality (AR), with painting and printmaking, constructing comprehensive narratives that tickle with resonance.

Lun’s latest body of work draws inspiration from the idiom, "turn to jelly” - referring to the feeling of vulnerability and powerlessness caused by fear or distress. Fear is an instinctive reaction or thought that often arises when one senses a potential threat. We tend to worsen the situation by conjuring vivid mental imagery of adversity and unpleasant situations, accumulating anxiety until these thoughts become suffocating and obstructive. However, what if we were to reinterpret the saying and, instead of the above, transform our fears into wobbly, edible jello that we can dismantle and consume with pleasure? Why not turn fright into wondrous, enjoyable fun?
