Ito Yukiko  (b. 1979) was born in Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan. She graduated from the Craft Department of Joshibi University of Art and Design in 2001, under the guidance of ceramic sculptor Akiko Fujita. From 2002 to 2010, she worked at the Kinku Creative Forest Foundation Studio. In 2012, she graduated from the Kutani Ceramic Research Institute and joined the Nishikiyama Kiln, which produces Kutani ware. In addition to working at the kiln, she also creates her own works. 

 

Ito is skilled in using pure gold (gold powder) for overglaze painting. In this exhibition, she utilised traditional Kutani-yaki techniques to create auspicious Chinese motifs with her unique delicacy and superb skills. Ito showcases her exceptional technique and admiration for traditional crafts in Kutani-yaki, which is a traditional Japanese ceramic art known for its exquisite techniques and unique beauty. Her works not only blend Japanese and Chinese cultural elements but also demonstrate her pursuit of beauty and unique understanding of traditional crafts, making her works uniquely charming to the viewers.
