Exhibition Statement

Toshiyasu Nakamura was born in Fukuoka, Japan, in 1975. He graduated from the Faculty of Art and Design at Kyushu Sangyo University in 1998. In 2000, Nakamura completed the Glass Certification Studies Programme at the Toyama Institute of Glass Art (TIGA) and began teaching the Glass Craft Course offered by the Toyama City Citizen Learning Centre that same year. In 2006, Nakamura established his own studio, Koshin Kobo, in Hita, Oita. In 2017, he was invited by Lexus to design the car interior for the LS500h using his unique Cut Glass Art.

During the Voyage of Light - Glass Art Group Exhibition in May 2022, Toshiyasu Nakamura's cut glass works shone brightly and impressed both audiences and collectors with their exceptional quality. As a result, Touch Ceramics is pleased to present Toshiyasu Nakamura's solo exhibition, "Voyage of Light II - Special Edition: Toshiyasu Nakamura Solo Exhibition.”

At 48 years old, Nakamura continues to explore and perfect his engraved glass craft. With a mastery of technique, a unique aesthetic perspective, and years of personal design experience, Nakamura imbues each glass artwork with a vibrant sense of life by boldly and passionately carving both classic and modern patterns. The interplay between the transparent, crystalline glass and the vividly coloured patterns creates a visually stunning experience. This exhibition showcases 80 carefully selected pieces, not only displaying Nakamura's dynamic and detailed cut glass art but also sharing his unique artistic creation insights with the audience, creating a dazzling display of light and shadow in this late spring.

Light, as a medium, dances and transforms within the glass, completing a unique and ever-changing journey of illumination. Touch Gallery now invites you to join us once again on this enchanting voyage, to personally witness and appreciate the resplendent radiance of glass art, to fully immerse yourself in the warmth of the sun's rays as they refract through the glass, illuminating a transcendent moment that touches the depths of our souls.
