ARTISTS / Silvester Mok
Silvester Mok is a Hong Kong ceramics artist who mainly works with 3D printed ceramics. After graduat-
ing from RMIT University in 2021, Mok has participated in HKAS/RMIT Graduates Exhibition and 17th
Fresh Trend Art Graduates Joint Exhibition, and was awarded the Fresh Trend Art Award. Later that year,
Mok had his rst two solo exhibitions “Moiré” and “Coherence” that marked the start of his art career.
To Silvester, compared to pot pinching, machines have dominated the ceramics forming process in 3D
printing. Clay was forced to squeeze out from the nozzle at precise coordinates, creating clay objects in a
digital way. The precision and accuracy of the machine make a huge contrast with clay, a material that
easily deforms under unbalanced weight and water content.
To explore the possibilities of digital ceramics, Mok engages and reconstructs visuals that he sees, with
geometric forms that resemble the essences of those images. Visuals are reduced to simpler forms and
colours, and the state gets captured permanently by re. Each creature consists of individual parts that
serve unique functions, in the composition of a harmonic arrangement, while being able to maintain their
singularity and diverge through their contrasting characteristics. Each of his creations consists of
individual parts that serve unique functions, in the composition of a harmonic arrangement, while being
able to maintain their singularity and diverge through their contrasting characteristics.
