Exhibition Statement
The evolution of contemporary glass art is deeply rooted in Venice, Italy, which has stood as the epicenter of European glass manufacturing since the 14th century, continuing to serve as a sanctuary for glass artists and enthusiasts alike. Today, the vibrant culture of glass also flourishes in Japan, where modern artisans have inherited and refined their craft, merging Western glass artistry with traditional Japanese aesthetics to forge a distinctive realm of glass art. Skilled craftsmen have masterfully expressed the essence of glass, showcasing a harmonious blend of traditional techniques in architecture, adornments, and utilitarian objects that resonate with the daily lives of the local populace.
In celebration of the onset of summer, Touch Ceramics proudly presents Voyage of Light III, a glass art group exhibition that radiates transparency and brilliance, inviting all to embrace the vivid and colorful artworks in joyful anticipation of the season.
This exhibition features the esteemed Japanese cut glass master Toshiyasu Nakamura alongside four emerging talents in the glass art scene: Shieri Hoki, Tsukasa Nakahara, Yoshiko Minagawa, and Koichi Matsufuji. Each artist brings a unique approach, employing techniques ranging from cutting, blowing, and thermoforming to color application, cold working, laminating, and flame-working. Together, they reveal the freedom and vibrant vitality of glass, transforming this rigid medium into exquisite, delicate creations.
This summer, we invite you to gather at Tai Kwun and experience the enchanting chemistry between glass and light.
