Dancing with Neriage — Yukiko Takahashi’s First Hong Kong Solo Exhibition
2026.11.02 - 2026.11.15
Exhibition Statement
To encounter the work of Yukiko Takahashi is to step into a poetic fairytale woven from clay and color. With a playful and whimsical perspective, she breaks away from the rigid geometric frameworks of traditional nerikomi (colored clay inlay) craftsmanship, transforming the creative logic of baking cookies and traditional Japanese Kintaro-ame (patterned candies) into ceramic inspiration. In her hands, color appears as a vibrant life force organically sprouting from the warm earth.
An artist’s journey is a solitary yet romantic exploration. A graduate of Kyoto Saga University of Arts, Takahashi further honed her craft at the Shigaraki Ceramic Research Institute, rooting herself in a landscape rich with ceramic heritage. Through her acute perception of the micro-cosmos of nature—from expressive animals such as owls, sloths, squirrels, and whales, to seasonal flora like cherry blossoms, hydrangeas, and magnolias—she distills fleeting natural beauty into refined works of art. From her early experimentations to her now-mature and distinctive artistic vocabulary, she infuses the rigorous, intricate nerikomi technique with an unprecedented sense of fluidity and contemporary breath.
This November, Touch Ceramics is deeply honored to welcome Yukiko Takahashi to Hong Kong for her very first solo exhibition. The exhibition presents nearly thirty masterworks, ranging from intimate animal tableware, delicate sake vessels, and uniquely shaped cups, to majestic large jars, expansive platters, and award-winning pieces celebrated in prestigious Japanese exhibitions. Each creation encapsulates her profound dialogue with clay and time, radiating a pure and heartfelt innocence.
With her dedication to artistic perfection, Yukiko Takahashi has garnered widespread acclaim in the contemporary Japanese ceramic landscape. We warmly invite our patrons and friends to visit the gallery and immerse themselves in this vibrant, beautiful celebration of ceramic art, experiencing the unique radiance of nerikomi as it blooms in Hong Kong.
